Happy General Conference weekend!

This week I will be looking at my all-time favorite scripture, D&C 6:34

"Therefore, fear not, little flock; do good; let earth and hell combine against you, for if ye are built upon my rock, they cannot prevail."

Here I will 1) explain what this verse means to me, 2) explain the principle in this passage, and 3) apply it to our own lives.

Notice the comforting tone used in this verse. For me, whenever I read this particular passage I immediately feel a sense of calm and reassurance. For me, this verse signifies our relationship to our Father and the power found within that relationship. In my mind, God is kind and loving and incredibly tender with His children. Much of my understanding of this characteristic comes from my exposure to this verse, and I feel that the principle within can be applied to every aspect of our lives. There is no point in my life when I will not need this reminder, both of His nature, and of the promise that He has made that will prevail against earth and hell.

The principle in this passage sis that the power of our Savior exceeds any power of the adversary. Our Father is reassuring us that we have a wonderful resource and friend, Jesus Christ, who will always allow us to be victorious.

In order to apply this to our own lives, we can heed Elder Uchtdorf's advice to use love to cast out fear. This passage exemplifies a few types of love. First of all, our Father loves us, as seen through his endearing term, "little flock." The "rock" is our Savior, who exemplifies charity. Finally, earth and hell are powers that do not rely on love. God's power, however, may. Love God enough to trust that He will take care of you. Trust in His love and use that to walk in confidence. For example, I am worried about some major decisions that I need to make within the next few months. These will have life-altering consequences, yet I remind myself to relax because God has promised me that I will prevail. No matter what challenges I face or how many setbacks I experience, I will come out victorious when I am built upon the rock.
