This week I will be discussing D&C 88:63-64, where it says:
63 Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me; ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
64 Whatsoever ye ask the Father in my name it shall be given unto you, that is expedient for you;
I am going to 1) explain what this verse means to me, 2) explain the principle in this passage, and 3) apply it to our own lives.
This verse is one that we have heard variations of many, many times, and yet it still is able to bring me peace and encouragement when I read it. Sometimes it can feel as if we have no guidance for some pretty major life decisions, and yet here we know that God will always support us when we ask. I have a lot of decisions to make right now, many with an impending due date, and so I think that these verses are especially applicable right now.
The principle here is fairly obvious, but it is one that we have a difficult time fully believing. Here we learn that if we ask, God will answer. So long as you have a righteous desire, in order to receive a particular blessing you simply need to request it, or if you want to understand something, you can ask for a better understanding and He will give it to you. God is always going to respond to us, He is only ever waiting for us to reach out to Him and ask for His aid.
How can this be applied? Be conscious in your life about times when you wish for something, or complain about lacking something, and yet you have not asked your Heavenly Father for it. Whenever you find yourself lamenting that you are not where or who you want to be, get on your knees in prayer and ask for it.
