DO GOOD

This week I want to share my all-time favorite scripture. I do not recall when I discovered this particular passage, but I know that I immediately felt a connection with this verse. It can be found in Doctrine & Covenants 6:34, and it reads:

"Therefore, fear not, little flock; do good; let earth and hell combine against you, for if ye are built upon my rock, they cannot prevail."

I am going to 1) explain what this verse means to me, 2) explain the principle in this passage, and 3) apply it to our own lives.

1) I cannot think of a time in my life when this is not relevant. I have always been struck by the loving tone used in this verse, the comforting words used to soothe His "little flock." My God is awesome and all powerful, but He is also a living and kind Heavenly Father. He cares fore me, he comforts me through the Holy Ghost, and He loves me enough that He sent His Only Begotten Son. This verse is straight forward and this simplicity brings me comfort. It does not matter if (A) happens, because (B) will always occur.

2) What principle can be gleaned from this verse? What I find relevant right now is the principle of trust in God, and the testament to His power. It can be easy to be blinded by our struggles and worries, however here we learn that there is no power that can combat God. No trial that we face is greater than His protection, and if we allow ourselves to become like children and trust in Him we can feel this for ourselves.

3) How is this relevant to our lives? As stated above, it can be easy to feel small and strangled by our problems. When we take a step back, however, and let Him show us the way, we can know that we will always come out on top in the end. We must "build upon (his) rock," and so we must make and keep covenants that allow us to do so. Work on building a relationship with the Godhead by reading your scriptures, praying, and attending the temple often. By doing so, we will always be able to depend on the promise listed in this scripture.
